Virtual Galentine's Day Celebration

It’s almost that time of year again … Valentine’s Day is slowly approaching, and heart shaped chocolates are already in stores. For those of us that are single right now, this upcoming holiday might not be one we are looking forward to. However, there is a way to still celebrate Valentine’s Day, but instead of celebrating a partner you can celebrate your favourite gal pals. Unfortunately this year we won’t be able to get together in person with our best friends, so why not celebrate safely from your own homes and gather your favourite gals via Zoom or FaceTime for a Virtual Galentine’s Day celebration? Here are some ways to celebrate love and romance this year with your best gal pals:

Bake some delicious treats!

The new stay at home order gives you and your gal pals even more reason to eat all the delicious treats you want, so why not make them pink and heart shaped?

We love this heart shaped macaron tutorial from Pies & Tacos, and feel free to change up the colours or add some fun Valentine’s Day sprinkles to the mix! French macarons are a delicious treat that not many people know how to make, so this can be the perfect time to try something new with your best friends over Zoom, and maybe enjoy a glass of rosé while you do it!

Another classic treat that most of us will have made as kids is the Rice Krispy Square. It may have been a few years since you’ve made these with your mom but this is a great time to whip out a classic recipe and add some Valentine’s Day flair. Cut your treats into a heart using a cookie cutter, or even dip them into melted pink chocolate and add sprinkles!

Watch your favourite Rom-Com!

Using the Chrome extension ‘Teleparty’, settle in for the night with some treats and a glass of wine and watch your favourite rom-com with your best gal pals. New to Netflix this year is the final film in the ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” series, “Always and Forever, Lara Jean”. Prepare for the night by rewatching the first and second films, and get ready for the dramatic conclusion to the series!

If you are the type to watch an old classic, why not go for something like “The Notebook” or “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”. Distract yourself and your friends from your single status with the gorgeousness of Ryan Gosling and Matthew McConaughey … and Rachel McAdams and Kate Hudson for that matter.

Play some games!

Since the start of this pandemic, people around the world have gotten very creative with ways to keep in touch with family and friends, while not able to gather in person. There are so many games available online for free to play virtually with your friends! One of our faves is Skribbl, a game where you try to quickly draw a word, and your friends try to guess the word as quickly as possible. Facetime or Zoom while you play for some hilarious commentary throughout the game. Another one of our favourite online game is Scattergories, where an online generator will give you categories and a letter, and you must name something starting with that letter in each of the categories. Again, FaceTime or Zoom your gals while playing, and things are bound to get entertaining.

We hope these suggestions make for a fun Galentine’s Day celebration with your best gal pals, but no matter how you spend this Valentine’s Day, be sure to enjoy a sweet treat (or two or three!) and stay safe!

Happy Galentine's Day!!
